Aqui Tomla
After working as a Sumi-e artist both domestically and internationally, Aki Tomura transitioned from art to design. She was involved in the full scope of brand development, including naming, concept creation, design, and product development for commercial facilities. In 2024, she established a company focused on connecting environmental concerns with design and assumed the role of Creative Director, overseeing the planning and management of projects. Rather than relying on carbon credit trading, she works with companies to regenerate natural cycles through tree planting, and was selected for a feature on the "Top 50 Environmental Companies in the World" in a Japanese magazine. Since then, she has specialized in the development of environmentally sustainable business projects.
In the fields of art direction and design, she has received numerous international awards, including in the United States and the United Kingdom. Her book, 70 Japanese Gestures: No Language Communication, has been published in Japan, the United States, and Brazil, while EKIBEN The Ultimate Japanese Travel Food won the Grand Prix in the Design category at the 2017 GOURMAND INTERNATIONAL Award, often referred to as the "Academy Awards of Food Books." Additionally,Her collection Le Corbeau was published by William Blake & Co, Edit in France and Greece.
After receiving the i-D Creative Award in 2006, she retired from her artistic career. She resumed agriculture in 2024 and returned to her artistic endeavors in 2025.
